The 2024-25 University View Academy (UVA) High School Teacher of the Year is Ms. Kristine Davis. Davis has been with UVA for three years and currently teaches Algebra I. She has been in education for 16 years and enjoys creating a structured learning environment where students are encouraged to reach their full potential.
“When I was a student, I needed consistency throughout all of my schedule, so I knew what to expect and what was expected of me,” Davis said. “I find it very important to provide that to my students as well.”
The well-being of her students is paramount to Davis. Throughout the school year, she prioritizes checking in with each individual on their academic progress and mental wellness. In addition to the support she offers in her class, Davis also began sponsoring a yoga club for high school students this year.
“I love UVA because it gives me the opportunity to reach students all across the state, instead of just one neighborhood or area,” Davis said. “One of my values is to connect with students on a regular and more personal basis.”
Davis’ dedication to her students has not gone unnoticed. At UVA, Teacher of the Year recipients are nominated by their peers. Davis has taken the lead with the Algebra I team this year. She supports new teachers and works with them to streamline the curriculum, ensuring that instruction is consistent for students. Davis’ colleagues and supervisors recognized her commitment to always go above and beyond and nominated her for the award.
“Working with Kristine is fun,” shared high school assistant principal Jason Cooper. “She is an extremely skilled teacher who is great at building and delivering content, and excels at forming rapport with her students. I always feel a little better and a little lighter after spending time with her.”
The Teacher of the Year award program is sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE). As UVA’s High School Teacher of the Year, Davis is eligible for recognition as a semifinalist or finalist for the state-level Teacher of the Year. Congratulations to Ms. Davis on her achievement.
